A 2008 movie directed and produced
by Christopher Nolan is The Dark Knight.
The movie is based on comic character Batman. It is a second part of the Batman
Series. The movie is a sequel of Batman Begins released in 2005. The movie is
Co-produced by United States and United Kingdom. Its releasing date was 16th
July, 2008 in the Australia, July 18 and July 24 in America (North) and United
Kingdom respectively.
The role in lead i.e. Bruce Wayne
or Batman was played by Christian Bale with Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and
Gary Oldman. The film brings in a new character of Harvey Dent played by Aaron
Eckhart and Wayne’s old friend of his childhood i.e. Rachel Dawes played by
Maggie Gyllenhaal, who helps Batman in fighting with the new upcoming threat
with a criminal mastermind who called himself as the “The Joker” (Heath Ledger).
The movie was considered as one the
best films of the 2000s. It was also considered as one of the best Superhero films
by the critics. The film received positive responses all over. It set many high
records during its runtime on theatres. Total revenue earned by the film was
over $ 1 Billion all over the world. The film bagged eight nominations at the
Academy Awards and won an award in the Best Sound editing category.
Six months before the movie got
released, Ledger died from intoxication of prescribed drugs. As he was shown as
the Joker in the film, his death leads to intense attention from the press and
the Movie-watchers.
The movie was primarily shot in
Chicago and other locations that of United States, United Kingdom and Hong
Kong. Warner Bros. re-released the film in IMAX theatres and traditional
theatres on January 23, 2009. The movie was declared as highest-grossing film
of 2008.
The
Dark Knight is surely a must watch at this New Year
eve as it is undoubtedly the best of Nolan’s trilogy.
